Promotional Package Feedback

I decided to create a Prezi to display because I think it is an easier way to display each question on a slide with the answers. I like this way of presenting feedback as the answers are clear to what question it is answering.

This is the original feedback which I create don a word document and thought of 5 questions that related on to how the audience felt about my digipak and advert. The idea of this audience feedback is where the whole class produced their own questions that they wanted to ask about their own digipak and advert and then we had to go to at lest 3-4 peoples computers and look at their digipak and advert whilst answering the questions.

I think this way of collecting audience feedback worked really well because everyone is my class has a good understanding of what we are doing as they are doing the same work so they can give an improvements that can be made to my digipak and advert.

My next step is to now make improvements that have been suggested by some of the people in my media class and then do a focus group with my target audience and see what they think of my next version of my digipak and advert.

Second Draft For Digipak Advert

With my Digipak advert I have made an adjustment of placing logos at the bottom of the advert as letting the audience know that there are other ways to listen to album and I have put the most popular apps and ways that people listen to music.

The next step for me is to use this advert in my hot desk where the class looks at my promotional package and looks at what works well and what needs to be improved.

First Draft For Digipak

In this first draft, I have included the front cover, back cover which includes the track names and barcode. I have also included a thank you not from the artist and also included some Polaroid like  photographs that I have taken with my Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 and scanned them into the computer to then put it onto Photoshop so I can then put in onto my digipak template. I have used the out of focus photograph on the CD panel because I wanted the focus to be on the the actual CD so it stands out more. I found that including a thank you note would mean that the audience would feel more connected to the artist and that its like a friendship and that the artist really appreciates that people are buying his album.
I find that the photographs that are used link to my music video because of the Narrative that both of them gives (Joan Lynch) of how in the music video, I have film close up of trees and then used photograph of trees at sunset on all of the panels. I decided to use trees because I found that gave a relaxing and calming feel to the digipak and that it shows that the lyrics in the songs are meaningful.
To improve my digipak, I am doing a "Hot Desk" where people in my class are able to look at it and comment on what they thought was good and what could need improving.

Continuing With Digipak

To start my digipak construction, I have started off by adding the front cover, back cover and the side where the CD is going to be.
I have put the front cover and the back cover upside down on the top half of the digipak. I have put the front cover and the back cover upside down because when I stick the two sides together it will mean that all of the sides will be the right way up.
The next step of my digipak will be to add the the inside flaps which I am planning putting a thank you note on and also polaroid photographs to make the album relate to the genre of the music (Joan Lynch') theory of narrative.

First Draft For Digipak Advert

Fir my first draft for my music magazine advert, I have decided to go for a dark photograph of the silhouette of trees at sunset because I wanted it too link to the genre that I want to portray which is Indie and the music that is quite relaxing and calming. From having a dark photograph, it means that the the text stands out a lot more. I have made all of the text white so it stands out even more from the photograph. I have made the text all central because I want it to be the focal point so that the audience will notice it more. I made the title and the artist' name take up the top third of the page as it plays as the brand identity of the artist so that the audience as soon as they see the name and also the photograph.
I have added ratings from popular and well known music magazine companies such as Q and NME because a lot of people who are into Indie music are more likely to read these music magazine and by having the ratings from them, it means that the audience us mire likely to buy it because they trust the opinions of the music magazines. I have also added "Out Now" in big, bold, capital letters because this gives the audience the message that is is now available to buy,
To improve this music magazine advert, I will be adding music apps such as iTunes and Spotify where they can download and listen to this album. This is because the target audience which is young adults/teenagers are mor elikely to download from iTunes and listen to music on Spotify especially students.

Flat Plan For Digipak

The flat plan for my digipak is there for me to find out which panel goes where so I do not design it the wrong way when producing it on InDesign. From doing a flat plan it also gives me an indication of what my ideas are from researching so I put my ideas into the flat plan so I have an idea to what I am going to be creating. A flat plan also means that I can get the right measurements because it gives me an idea of what it would look like in real life and also if the digipak will look like it suite my genre which the genre I am going for is Indie. I am not using any photographs of the artist as it is a Indie digipak and I want the audience to buy the digipak for the music and not the style and looks of the artist so I want the digipak to display the Narrative of the lyrics in the song (Joan Lynch). The measurements for the digipak is 12x12cm so I know what measurements to do for when I create my digipak on InDesign so I can get an accurate perspective of how it will look when I print it out.

Music Video: Fourth Edit

The things I have changed for my fourth edit for my music video, I put a dust and scratches effect and just changed little things such as cutting bits of clips that are still a little shakey and unnecessary.

I feel like the music video links more with the theory about Narrative video by Joan Lynch because I have used the effects to show that the video isn't a video where it is a performance with outfits and studio lighting but a video where the lyrics relates to what the video is presenting and has a natural feel and location with it.

Adding Effects On Adobe Premier Pro

To get my fourth and final edit of my music video, I decided to add an effect to my video. The effect I have added is very suttle but effective. The effect I have chosen is the "scratch" effect which makes the video look more like a "homemade" video to portray Lynchs theory of Narrative video.

To make these effects in, I went onto the effects tab at the bottom left box where the clips are normally displayed. To get the effect I wanted I typed in "dust" to see what sort of effects would come up because I wanted a grainy/super 8 camera effect to my footage but not too strong. To put the effect onto the whole video, I dragged the effect to the timeline and placed it above the footage. To edit the radius and how strong I wanted the effect on my edits, I went into the top left section and clicked the "effects control" and then changed the radius number.

Template For Digipak In Adobe InDesign

To design my Digipak, I have used Adobe InDesign because I find that the creating the template makes it easier for me to have the right measurements of the digipak and the layout is set out simple so I know I'm doing it correctly.

The measurements for the digipak is 120x120mm (12x12cm) so each square of the digipak has to be 120x120mm. The measurements for my spine is 5mm. However, I may need to change some of the spines to 10mm because when the digipak folds, it needs to fit.

Third Edit For Music Video

This edit of my music video is the same video as my second edit but I found that the video ran for 3:50 and the last 1:30 roughly was just a back screen so to correct it, I cut the video down when exporting it to a mp4 file.

My next step to improve my music video I will be adding a light effect to my footage to make the audience to understand the narrative more at the fact that the video is a home made video and is a vintage/indie style to it to match the frame style (similar to the Super 8 camera look). By adding an effect it will make the audience understand the narrative more (Joan Lynch).

Second Edit Music Video

In response to my hot desking feedback (audience feedback) I have changed some bits of the footage to improve my video.

The first thing I changed was taking out the end footage with the church because the audience found it hard to understand the narrative of the video which links the Joan Lynch' theory of narrative video which the lyrics and music are to represent the meaning of the video which has no lip syncing in it.

I have also put a frame on my video so that it looks like an old super 8 film camera. I went for this style of frame because I wanted the audience to understand that the narrative of the video is the singer is the one filming the girl (his girlfriend) and the lyrics are what he feels for her when he looks at her so it's like a home made video.

I have added some more close ups of the girl because in the audience feedback, the audience wanted more feedback. From having the close ups mean that you can see her eyes a lot more and the way she is portrayed is the way the boy sees her.

Artwork Inspirations

Albums Covers:
To start getting an idea of what I want my Digipak to look like and the sort of idea I have in mind, I decided to do some research on Album/EP Covers/Artwork. From looking at Album Artwork there is a distinct pattern why I chose these albums because the album do not necessarily use the actual artists at all or not close up to make it clear. All of these artists/bands (except Taylor Swift' album) use locations rather than close ups. All of the album artworks use distinctive brand identity such as the artists/bands name. A lot of the artists/band titles on these album covers are a lot more bolder and bigger than what Rihannas album cover is. This is because in these album covers, the album cover is not linked to the artist/band because the whole point of not having the artist/band on the cover because they believe it is more about the music they produce than what they look like. I I also find that the colours are not bold and "in your face". This is because the audience will buy their albums because they like their music and know who they without a photograph of them and bright colours to attract the audiences attention. I find that with Indie bands and artists that the audience recognises that an album is there's e.g. The 1975  because of the band title which is apart of their identity. The audience is more likely to recognise their band/artist name with their logo (the font of their names) than their actual faces especially with Indie artists and bands.

 EP Covers:

I have also chose to look EP covers because the EP artwork are always a little different than the album artwork. This is because with a EP, artists/bands are just trying to sell the EP which has 3 or 4 songs where as an album/digipak will have to try and attract the audience to buy the album.  I really like these EP Covers because the covers do not have the artist/band on it. The photographs they use for their front covers, suggest the genre of the song. For an example, The 1975 have use a photograph of a high up view of a city at night. I found when I listened to the song "Medicine" I was actually thinking of a view of a city at night with all of the lights. The photographs they all use to represent their genre of music is what I want to do for my Digipak because in my music video, I decided on a Narrative music video (Joan Lynch) which means for my Digipak it would go better if I had a similar running theme.

Album Advert In Magazines

Apart of our coursework with Digipaks, we have to also produce a advert to promote the Digipak that I will also be producing. To get an idea of how what a album advert looks like, I looked at some music magazines such Q and NME and these were the adverts that I found that stood out the most and were the most appealing.
