Albums Covers:
To start getting an idea of what I want my Digipak to look like and the sort of idea I have in mind, I decided to do some research on Album/EP Covers/Artwork. From looking at Album Artwork there is a distinct pattern why I chose these albums because the album do not necessarily use the actual artists at all or not close up to make it clear. All of these artists/bands (except Taylor Swift' album) use locations rather than close ups. All of the album artworks use distinctive brand identity such as the artists/bands name. A lot of the artists/band titles on these album covers are a lot more bolder and bigger than what Rihannas album cover is. This is because in these album covers, the album cover is not linked to the artist/band because the whole point of not having the artist/band on the cover because they believe it is more about the music they produce than what they look like. I I also find that the colours are not bold and "in your face". This is because the audience will buy their albums because they like their music and know who they without a photograph of them and bright colours to attract the audiences attention. I find that with Indie bands and artists that the audience recognises that an album is there's e.g. The 1975 because of the band title which is apart of their identity. The audience is more likely to recognise their band/artist name with their logo (the font of their names) than their actual faces especially with Indie artists and bands.
EP Covers:
I have also chose to look EP covers because the EP artwork are always a little different than the album artwork. This is because with a EP, artists/bands are just trying to sell the EP which has 3 or 4 songs where as an album/digipak will have to try and attract the audience to buy the album. I really like these EP Covers because the covers do not have the artist/band on it. The photographs they use for their front covers, suggest the genre of the song. For an example, The 1975 have use a photograph of a high up view of a city at night. I found when I listened to the song "Medicine" I was actually thinking of a view of a city at night with all of the lights. The photographs they all use to represent their genre of music is what I want to do for my Digipak because in my music video, I decided on a Narrative music video (Joan Lynch) which means for my Digipak it would go better if I had a similar running theme.
